The work

Bringing lightness
to the eye.

Essenza is a self-supporting open spiral staircase. Iron and wooden treads form a clear spiral in which open space remains part of the design.

Mixed techniques. Designed by Simone Scapini.
01 / Up close

The form,
uninterrupted.

The view from above and the railing connections tell the same story of continuity.

The centre remains open.

The treads are arranged around the opening, defining the route.

White
lets the form speak.

The pale finish follows the relationship between structure, railing and treads. Up close, thicknesses and meeting points emerge.

The images

Images marked “AI photographic study” are editorial interpretations and may alter details of the work or its setting. The links beside them show the original photographs, which remain the reference for the details.

Studies of form

The three-dimensional animations are illustrative studies of line and material. The staircase in the contact section is an original 3D model inspired by the folded metal treads of “Fuori Salone Milano” in the Scapini Design portfolio. It is a study of form, rather than a reconstruction to scale. The Loretta film is an AI interpretation of the original photograph.
