The work

One motif.
Many settings.

A network of irregular openings lightens the iron surface. The design follows the exterior boundary and reappears in the staircase: angle and light change, while the pattern remains recognisable.

01 / Up close

Open space
shapes the material.

From afar, the pattern reads as a whole; up close, as a sequence of edges and thicknesses.

01 / The boundary

An open pattern.

The cuts let the gaze pass through. Seen along the fence, solids and openings create a continuous rhythm.

02 / The staircase

The design rises.

The cellular motif follows the slope of the staircase. The edges of the openings and the pale surface reveal the thickness of the sheet metal.

Indoors.
The same idea.

On the staircase, the pattern overlaps with windows, flights and landings. The openings frame the space and connect the different levels of the building.

The works

The works are by Simone Scapini. Collaborators are credited on the relevant project pages, including Cannettato by Luca Zanaroli and Simone Scapini, and Incastro by Massimiliano Bottero and Simone Scapini. Reproducing these works requires the author’s permission.

The images

Images marked “AI photographic study” are editorial interpretations and may alter details of the work or its setting. The links beside them show the original photographs, which remain the reference for the details.

Studies of form

The three-dimensional animations are illustrative studies of line and material. The staircase in the contact section is an original 3D model inspired by the folded metal treads of “Fuori Salone Milano” in the Scapini Design portfolio. It is a study of form, rather than a reconstruction to scale. The Loretta film is an AI interpretation of the original photograph.
